Sashank Varma is currently a Research Associate at Stanford University. He has a B.S. in mathematics and cognitive science from Carnegie Mellon University and a Ph.D in cognitive psychology from Vanderbilt University. He has been a member of the Institute for the Learning Sciences at Northwestern University and the Learning Technology Center at Vanderbilt University. Beginning in the fall of 2008, he will be an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Minnesota.

He is interested in those complex forms of cognition of greatest interest to education, such as language comprehension, mathematical reasoning, and problem solving. He studies these topics using a combination of computational modeling and behavioral and brain imaging based experimentation. His research has appeared in journals ranging from Educational Researcher to Psychological Review to Neuropsychologia.
